for Quality Recovery

Who is Latefoss®?

We are UK based SME dedicated to help individuals achieve longevity and maintain an active lifestyle by focusing on biomechanics and movement quality.

Our vision is to transform the digital health tech industries with our innovative "core" monitoring wearable technology.

Why focus on the "core"?
Our "core", also known as the trunk, plays a vital role in our overall biomechanics - it is central to our movements, our athletic performance, and plays a pivotal role in managing our risk of injuries and rehabilitation outcomes. This is why a paramount aspect our innovation is offering our users the ability to assess and optimise trunk control and alignment for overall health and training purposes.

The “Core” Challenge: Stroke Rehabilitation
Stroke is a global health crisis, affecting millions worldwide and leaving many with long-term disabilities. One of the most common consequences of stroke is hemiplegia, or weakness on one side of the body.

- Hemiplegia and Trunk Impairment:
Hemiplegia leads to significant trunk impairment, affecting balance, posture, and coordination.
- High Prevalence:
Studies show that 80% of stroke survivors experience trunk impairment or postural control deficits
- Visual Assessment Limitations:
Current clinical assessments of trunk alignment are subjective, relying on visual observation by therapists

The “Core” Problems
Despite the importance of intensive rehabilitation intreating hemiplegia, many stroke patients do not receive enough therapy due to constraints within the NHS.

In addition, caregivers, who play a vital role in supporting stroke patients, lack the training and tools needed to provide effective rehabilitation within the home environment.

Finally, existing technologies like VR and exoskeletons fail to address the critical role of the trunk in overall recovery.

Consequently, this can lead to:
- Compromised Mobility:
Trunk instability impairs balance, coordination, and efficient movement
- Functional Limitations:
Difficulty performing daily activities like dressing, bathing, and reaching
- Speech and Swallowing Difficulties:
Poor trunk alignment can affect posture and muscle coordination needed for effective communication and safe eating
- Increased Risk of Falls:
Poor trunk control significantly increases the risk of falls

The SmartCord™ Vest: A New Approach
The SmartCord™ Vest is a breakthrough wearable technology designed to address the critical need for trunk control and alignment in stroke rehabilitation. Our innovative solution provides:
- Physical Visual Feedback:
Allowing any individual to easily assess trunk alignment.
- Digitised Data:
Providing objective data on trunk control and progress.

The SmartCord™ Vest offers a beneficial solution to the challenges of stroke rehabilitation by:
- Empowering caregivers:
providing easy-to-use tools for assessing and improving trunk alignment
- Maximising patient recovery:
ensuring good trunk control and alignment during a wide range of rehabilitation exercises and treatments
- Improving the treatment efficiency for therapists:
utilising progress trackers and data-driven insights to drive decision making process
